Concrete5 is an open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing content on the World Wide Web and intranets. It was designed for ease of use, for users with a minimum of technical skills. You can edit site content directly from the page. There is version management for every page and resembles most wiki software, another type of website development software. Users can edit images through an embedded editor on the page.

Model-View-Controller architecture is a software architectural pattern for implementing user interfaces on computers. It divides a given application into three interconnected parts. This is done to separate internal representations of information from the way information is presented to, and accepted from, the user. The MVC design pattern decouples these major components allowing for efficient code reuse and parallel development.

Traditionally used for desktop graphical user interfaces (GUIs), this architecture has become popular for designing web applications and even mobile, desktop and other clients.[3] Popular programming languages like Java, C#, Ruby, PHP and others have popular MVC frameworks that are currently being used in web application development straight out of the box.

Some core features are integrated server caching, developer API, version tracking system and search engine optimization.

Features

With Concrete5 you can edit your content directly on the page rather than in an administrative interface or editor software. The editable areas allow the user to insert content blocks. Content blocks can contain images and text or have a more complex functionality as slideshows, comment systems, file lists, and maps. From the marketplace on the Concrete5 website, you can install other add-ons. If you run a website with Concrete5 you can connect it to the Concrete5 website. This allows automatic upgrading and download of any addons from the Marketplace.

History

Development of concrete5 began in 2003. Regular updates have been released. Version 5.4.0.5 was released on April 20, 2010. The latest version is 8.1.0 released on Jan 24, 2017.
